NAI Hiffman completes several retail and office leases in Western Suburbs

NAI Hiffman has recently completed a slew of retail and office leases in the western suburbs, totaling more than 84,000 square feet.

Lifestyle retail center Oak Brook Promenade has seen a recent flurry of leases signed, including an office transaction, totaling 34,896 square feet, bringing a wide range of new merchants to the western suburbs. Most recently, Select Comfort , known for their Sleep Number beds, signed a lease for 3,570 square feet and will open their doors at the center in the fourth quarter. Thomasville Furniture , which will open in the next few weeks, took the largest space in the center, consummating a long-term lease for 12,406 square feet next door to Italian steakhouse, Grotto Oak Brook, overlooking the public fountain and walkways.

Totopo Mexican grill also recently opened a 3,314-square-foot restaurant next door neighbor Kona Grill.

Packaging design firm TricorBraun has taken 9,038 square feet of office space above Thomasville, and will open its doors in the fourth quarter.

Claire Bitautas and Anne Callard of NAI Hiffman handle the retail leasing for the Promenade, while Brian Edgerton, also with NAI Hffiman, represents the center for office tenants.

In a separate transaction, NAI Hiffman’s office leasing team recently reported that it completed more than 50,000 square feet in leases on behalf of The Hayman Company, court appointed receiver for Roosevelt Glen Corporate Center in Glen Ellen, Illinois. The property, a 233,000-square-foot, seven-building complex which went into receivership just over a year ago, is located at the southwest corner of Route 53 and Route 38 in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, just west of I-355.  Since being awarded the assignment, NAI Hiffman’s team has brought the complex to sixty percent occupancy through renewals, expansions, and new tenant signings.

Grocer to expand in move to Old Navy space

A grocery and fruit store plans to almost double the size of its Morton Grove location by moving a short distance to an Old Navy store whose lease is expiring. Produce World signed a long-term lease for the 25,000-square-foot space at Village Plaza, at the Harlem Avenue and Dempster Street in Morton Grove, according to NAI Hiffman, which represented the grocer. Produce World, which also has a location in west suburban Norridge, plans to open the new store early next year, moving from 13,000 square feet at 8800 Waukegan Road, according to Oakbrook Terrace-based NAI Hiffman. CB Richard Ellis Inc. represented Village Plaza.

Highland Park Car Dealership Sells for $2.9M

Highland Park Ford Lincoln Mercury sold its former dealership property at 55 Skokie Valley Road in Highland Park, IL, to Thornton’s Inc. for $2.85 million, or approximately $122 per square foot.

The property includes a 23,299-square-foot retail building on 2.78 acres. Thornton’s plans to develop a state-of-the-art Thornton’s brand gas station as well as a medical office building on the site, its first location on the North Side of Chicago.

Retail guru Claire Bitautas touts grocery store anchor

BitautasWhat’s the difference between a neighborhood shopping center with an empty parking lot, and one where shoppers have to circle the lot five times before finding a spot? It might just be that grocery store anchor.

At least that’s the thought of Claire Bitautas, senior vice president with the retail services group of NAI Hiffman, a commercial brokerage and management firm headquartered in the Chicago suburb of Oakbrook Terrace, Ill. Read the full story here.

Still Partying

In round two of our ICSC party coverage, NAI Hiffman hosted one at Luxe Bar Thursday night. Celebrating a new job was NAI’s Jim Tsevis, here with TCF Bank’s Brian Bianchi. Jim joined NAI from CBRE as VP of the retail services group. He’s working on the Huntington Woods project with McShane, as well as three former Cub Foods sites and a few lifestyle centers to get leasing back on track.

NAI Hiffman’s Mike Meksto, Cornerstone’s Spero Adamis and Victor Construction’s Jeff Schuttler were out until the wee hous of the morning. Mike’s working on leasing 21 properties for Cullinan Properties throughout the state. Hopefully they all got more deals done on Friday!
